The last roar of the Gujarat Lion?

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi termed the CBI demand for shifting the Sohrabuddin case out of the state an insult to Gujarat's judicial system that "will not be tolerated any longer". He alleged that the Centre was treating Gujarat as an enemy territory and not as a part of the Indian Union. At the same time he is trying to save his reputation, when Congress is pointing fingers at him for the whole fiasco.

Is this the last arrow from the CM to save his political dominance? Is this the beginning of the end of a great political era, which might change the face of Gujarat’s politics?

  1. Firstly, there is no such thing as “Last Arrow” of NAMO. Attacks on him are not uncommon after he replaced Keshubhai as Gujarat’s CM. Every time he is accused for so-called misdeeds, it has backfired, his popularity growing even more. It’s not a child’s play to win three consecutive terms amidst such attacks. The main reason for his popularity is that he gives results – without delays.

Soharabuddin case has many ironies; is it a crime to eliminate a proven terrorist? Why CBI is so adamant to protect the interests of an extortionist who stocked illegal AK-47s? Why our elite Parliament not realizing that all this uproar to punish Gujarat’s key leaders for alleged encounter of Soharabuddin sends very negative signals to the international community? Consider Israel’s case where such similar people are awarded with bravery medals, while India imprisons them. This entire hubbub has proved one thing – India is a safeground for terrorists, because knowingly or unknowingly, dirty vote-bank politics is in their favour.

As far as Gujarat’s politics is concerned, its face had changed on 7th October, 2001. Gujaratis like this face; they want to keep it, irrespective of all the allegations. NAMO gives what Gujarat needs and that’s what matters – performance. The recent rumors of NAMO planning for re-election, if they are true, would be a great move by a great politician. All the recent allegations on him and his ministers will not only be unfruitful to centre, but they might backfire with NAMO’s team getting record votes.

  2. Narendra Modi political era can only be curtailed by Narendra Modi himself and no one else. NaMo has set a high precedent in Indian politics and have brought in the facet that have been ever missing and that is so elusive –“accountability” factor in Indian politics. When we talk of dominance of any political leader and that too in the current socio-economic condition of India, this dominance amongst masses, masses which is now educated and empowered, masses which now knows what’s happening in their state, in their country and in the world as a whole. Namo type dominance amongst this type of present masses can only be established through work delivered and various socio and economic indexes showing the leapfrogging of Gujarat in every front just substantiates it. It will be too soon to call a day for Namo. When centre shifts the legal case from territory of Gujarat to adjoining states point to be remembered is that these so called non-partisan benches across state carry forward their legal proceedings from the FIR filed by Gujarat police only. Shifting the case outside not only shows that the case is vulnerable in the state of Gujarat but it raises so many concerns on the judiciary as a whole, this shows that judiciary can be twisted as per wish in any state. And if this is the suspicion level on judiciary(for that matter of any state) persists then it weakens the underlying principle of Democracy itself.

Centre could have adopted a more cautious approach, if they are so suspicious of state government dilly dallying the case,it directly reflects that Judiciary bends infront of state. If it can be bend in one state ruled by other party then the case can be replicated more conveniently in the states ruled by Congress party itself. An expert committee outside state’s purview could have been formed to directly monitor but to cater to vote bank politics and also because of a threat from a potential future P.M. (Namo) this and many other small cases has been presented in shady lights infront of common people.

  3. “Every beginning has an end”, but in NaMo’s case it’s not ture. His dominance and presence will influences Gujarat and India. After the recent uproar, NaMo has got a new topic to win heart of people. If elections are declared now, answer to this question will be given perfectly with Congress being washed out from Gujarat forever. What Gujarat has achieved in last decade has not been achieved in past 50 years. NaMo’s concept of delivering is different; his fast track decision, fast progress and everyone from Gujarat has been made part of success whether minorities or majorities, farmers or industrialist, rich or poor. Success at such a pace is not acceptable to some sources and since 2002, political attacks on NaMo are common, but yet he is the most successful C.Ms - delivering more and more. Some people rightly compare him with Sardar Patel.
Regarding Sohrabuddin case, NaMo has the support of many people after Headley’s recent statement that Sohrabuddin and his wife were trained in Pakistan. So what Congress would do after big terrorist attack? Catch him and keep him like a guest in jail spending more than Rs. 30 crores a year? Or eliminate him before doing there is any major attack in any Congress ruled state and boast about it? Here comes a big question of vote bank or security of the nation. It is well proved that a red-handedly caught terrorist is a guest of India for years together due to poor judiciary system. Few may say that it was a fake encounter etc., but if it was at all, is it wrong killing such traitors? Will India tolerate murders of its innocent brothers and sisters?
If the Judicial System of some state is blamed it’s shameful not only for the state but also for the nation as whole. Through this a wrong message is been sent to whole world questioning our law and system. For Gujarat, its target on the ruling party but this is very well answered by NaMo and soon it’s going to be difficult for CBI to answer as remand of Amit Shah has not been approved yet. Hence this is just a beginning to new safe era of Gujarat and India.
